The Many Things You Can’t Do Without Hot Water

September 27th, 2012

As a homeowner, one of the many joys you’ll probably have to deal with unexpectedly is your hot water tank dying. Such is what happened to me yesterday while I was at school, but luckily it didn’t flood the basement. I mean, we had a good sized puddle but it could’ve been worse, so I’ll be happy about that.

The real thing though is you don’t really realize how inconvenient going without hot water is. Gone are your joyous showers. No jumping out from under the covers and running for your life to the warm embrace of the shower (yes, I am already doing this so early into the colder weather). Sigh.

You can’t do dishes, not that I’m so disappointed about that, but still. Just a bigger pile to do now. Sigh.

You can’t do laundry, unless you have that cold-water formula. Just a bigger pile to do now. Sigh.

I’m not trying to be dramatic, but I’ve almost literally been plunged back into the dark ages. On the plus side, the new hot water tank should be in soon and we should be good to go for about 10 years!

Having a hot water tank explode is a disaster! At least you didn't have a flood.

The worst is no water at all! I always end up turning a tap on, or trying to flush the toilet, which typically makes things worse. #firstworldproblems.
My sympathies are with you, friend.

Aww, I'm sorry that happened to you. I really liked your piece. Simple, short, and funny.

Running water is one of the great human inventions, along with harnessed electricity and cities.
